- Where did you get that translate from?

- It is just a word, I said. I only meant that reading changes a person. You do not argue with that, surely? What else has my learning been for?

- Listen to me, he said, touching my arm again. Translation is God's work, he said. Translation is a word we use for Jesus upon the cross. The only translation that is proper to a man is Baptism, which translates us from Original Sin and is our entry into the Kingdom.

- I misspoke, I said. I am sorry, I only meant that words change a man. I did not mean transfiguration.
